Federal Government has been advised to ensure that the planned indefinite industrial action by the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, and Trade Union Congress, TUC, is averted in the interest all.
Lead Director, of the Centre for Social Justice, CSJ, Eze Onyekpere, who made the call in a statement, said that the strike scheduled for October 2nd could have been prevented through humane engagement by the Government in the post petrol subsidy removal negotiations. He however noted that it is still not too late for the Federal Government to act.
He also acknowledged the importance of President Bola ahmed Tinubu’s policy reforms, notably the removal of fuel subsidies and the floatation of the naira.
Onyekpere noted that the NLC has expressed worries that the government-appointed committee responsible for negotiating cushioning measures for workers has either intentionally delayed or neglected to commence negotiations.
