Focus On National Challenges, Minister Tells Researchers

The Minister of State for Science, Technology and Innovation, Mohammed Abdullahi has called on Nigerian researchers and innovators to focus on national challenges including that of power generation.

He made the call in a lecture he delivered at the Igbinedon University, Okada in Edo.

According to a statement issued in Abuja by his Public Relations Officer, Maryam Zakari, Abdullahi noted that the ministry had made efforts to establish strong interactions between industry and researchers through programmes such the Annual Science, Technology and Innovatiom Expo.

He said there was the need for Nigeria’s education system to deploy more knowledge for the nation’s socio-economic growth. According to him, Government-Academia-Industry model is the most reliable way to achieve rapid commercialisation of research findings.

The Minister added that economic diversification would be achieved by focusing on scientific research and innovations.

Earlier, the Vice-Chancellor of the university, Lawrence Ezemonye, said that the university was championing education revolution in the country through innovation and entrepreneurship research.
