The Minister of Water Resources Suleiman Adamu has restated the commitment of the Federal Government to policies, projects and programmes aimed at expanding Nigerians access to clean water.
He said that diligent implementation of these programmes would also ensure sustainable access to clean water that meets the social, cultural, environmental and economic needs of all Nigerians.
Adamu said that from 2015 to date, the Federal Government had initiated some laudable projects and programmes to improve the water sector, stressing that water is life. He said that over the years, policy and institutional inadequacies accounted for the poor performance of the River Basin Development Authorities, RBDAs.
The Minister added that the present administration had re-positioned the RBDAs to perform optimally in line with its original mandate as effective vehicles for integrated rural development.
Adamu recalled that the Government has declared a State of Emergency on the Water, Sanitation and Hygiene, WASH Sector to strengthen Federal-State Partnership to ensure that all Nigerians had access to sustainable and safely- managed WASH services by 2030.
